COLLECTION OF LINKS TO 3D AND 2D VIRTUAL WORLDS
3D worlds are interactive environments where the visitor is represented
by a 2D or 3D avatar. The avatar provides a first person viewpoint as it moves
through graphical space with objects being seen as they come into view.
The avatar provides a third person viewpoint and each scene is fully realized as it is entered. Well known and not so well known 3D/2D worlds are listed here and worlds in languages other than English.
Language tools for translation include Babel Fish and Google Translate for IE and Fox Lingo for Firefox.
There are also 3D/2D worlds and chats you can put on your own website, games,
software, graphics and miscelleny. The worlds and software listed on this site are free to use.
You'll need to have Shockwave , Flash and Java to view a number of the chats/games listed.
Many 3D worlds here are VRML. The recommended browser plugin to view VRML
worlds is blaxxun's Contact V.5.3. The blaxxun site and their community server are presently
offline due to business reasons, but Contact V.5.3 can be downloaded from Outside.
There are also some Bitmanagement Software VRML and X3D worlds which can
only be viewed with the BS Contact VRML/X3D plugin. For information, see the

Java-3D-Chat
With Free-Java-3D-Chat, by Ralf Rosenkranz (Voltax),
anyone with a website can have their own 3D chat world.
The site is in German but it is not necessary you speak German.
Visit The Demo World
When page opens, click on the red START LOGIN button.
Enter world as a Guest. Any nickname is o.k. for visiting.
The chat will take a while to load.
If files load but all you see is a grey screen, you may need to update your Java:

VISLITE
La Sagrada Familia

The site has a big and varied collection of heritage buildings of Spain and its former colonies.
Visiting the worlds seems complex at first but the more worlds you visit, the easier it gets.
The site is in Spanish but the virtual worlds are available in English.
To view the Sagrada Familia, on the building's page locate the 'Ver visita'
virtual visit icon. The icon is a little blue box. Click on the icon to begin the visit.
From the menu offered in a pop up window, click on 3D virtual visit. Select a Free,
Combined, Assisted navigation or Automatic visit. Press Accept. Choose from the menu to
view Exterior, Passion Facade, Nativity Facade or Interior and the chosen world will load.

Select Virtual 3D Walk from the menu. On the map that appears, select one of the six
3D tour areas marked with orange 3D boxes. Click a couple of times on a box and a more
precise location pop up box will appear. Select your Options, then o.k. World will load.

Outside is a place where world creators can display their blaxxun VRML
worlds to the community. On this free server offered by Revemonde, creators
can easily connect their VRML worlds for visitors to explore in blaxxun chat.
The Outside site offers information on how to connect a world, a forum,
tools for exploration and downloads of blaxxun Contact V.5.3 and BXApplet.
Visit the worlds via the Outside site or enter the Outside Community .

Virtual Forbidden City
Enter Virtual Forbidden City site
In this joint project between IBM and Beijing's Palace Museum, you can experience the Forbidden City as
it was during the Qing dynasty, which ruled from 1644 until 1912, the end of the Imperial period in China.
Download the program, choose an avatar, take tours and participate in activities that provide
insights into aspects of Qing culture. Available in English and Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

The Endless Forest can be a regular application on your desktop to use anytime, or a
screensaver
